What Is Fish Oil?

“Fish oil” is the common name for the polyunsaturated Omega-3 fats found in the tissue of cold-water fatty fish such as salmon, herring, mackerel, etc. Omega-3s are known as “essential fatty acids” (EFAs). These polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are essential because the body needs them, however cannot synthesize them in adequate quantities. Omega-3s must come from an outside source, preferably your diet.
